While Real Madrid, following the appointment of Wirtz's former Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, have made a move this week, Liverpool remain favourites to land the Germany attacker. BILD says key to Wirtz's decision was a meeting earlier this month between the player and Slot. Bayer had granted Wirtz permission to speak with Liverpool and Bayern Munich. Real Madrid have signed Trent Alexander-Arnold, both clubs confirmed on Friday, with a source telling ESPN they agreed to a €10 million ($11.3m) deal for his early release so that he can play at the Club World Cup. Liverpool had already announced that Alexander-Arnold would be leaving Anfield this summer after he opted against signing a new contract with his boyhood club. Madrid then began talks with the Premier League champions to release Alexander-Arnold before his contract with them was due to expire on June 30, 2025. The transfer is set to be completed when the summer transfer window opens on Sunday.
